PROJECTS
Livelihood and Sustainable Development
Rights and Advocacy
VDS has become acutely aware that there is a need to build capacities of marginalized especially girls and women in a focused manner, as they suffer from multiple social disabilities compounded by lack of awareness and knowledge on issues affecting their well-being .
The Organisation plays the role of an awareness-builder and facilitator for increasing the realization of rights and entitlements.
-
Combating gender stereotyping that prevents women from speaking up and claiming their rights and entitlements
-
Building knowledge of women and youth about key rights and entitlements, and responsibilities of panchayats.
-
Engaging youth in hands-on exercises for claiming MGNREGA entitlements, and developing their organisational and leadership skills
Due to the agrarian crises and absence of alternative employment opportunities, thousands of people in Bundelkhand are doing distress migration every year in the hope of getting a decent livelihood opportunity. The organization is promoting small self- sustainable food production techniques such as organic farming, vegetable garden, goat farming, which goes a long way to ensure distress migration reduces.
Education
Setting-up low-cost education centers in the tribal villages for the children belonging to most deprived communities. The centers give basic education to children. The aim of the program is to give an opportunity for education to the children that are denied to them because of many socio-cultural reasons.

Education
As a part of its close contacts with many weaker section communities in its work area, the organisation became painfully aware of the fact that in some rural hamlets inhabited by weakest sections, over 60 per cent of the children do not go to school at all. This can even go up to 80 per cent or more in some cases. The reason can be the distant location of a government school, discrimination, and hostility towards children of some weakest sections etc.
Setting-up low cost education centers in the villages of Bundelkhand for the children belonging to most deprived communities. These centers function for the children from 5 to 14 years of age who have either never been to school or have dropped out of their schools because of numerous reasons. The aim of the program is to given an opportunity of education to the children that is denied to them because of many socio-cultural reasons.
Livelihood and Agriculture
Bundelkhand is a hub of migration in U.P, India. Because of several environmental, economic, developmental reasons thousands of people migrate to place far way while leaving their families back in the village. Many such people have small agricultural lands of less than one Acre which are left barren. The Organization is supporting these people to rebuild their agricultural land by using organic Fertilizers which will ensure viable source of livelihood in the village itself. These lands, if rebuilt, can easily support the families with nutritious food all through the year.
Small self- sustainable food production techniques such as organic farming, vegetable garden, goat farming, and poultry can go a long way to ensure that the family gets a balanced diet all through the year without depending on any external support. The women members of rural families, if empowered with this skill can easily cope with malnutrition, crop losses and other negative implications, thereby making kitchen gardening a profitable initiative.
Environment and water crises
The Bundelkhand region is undergoing severe water crises for many years now, which has disturbed the livelihood, economy of the landless and poor small & marginal farmers. Climate change is affecting the food security of the community members as climate change has been generating the problems of water availability, less rainfall, regular drought, deterioration of soil fertility, etc. Due to water crisis agriculture, allied activities also get disturbed. Vidya Dham Samiti is actively working on water restoration, water harvesting, reviving the existing sources of water and so on.
